From torsion theories to closure operators and factorization systems
Torsion theories are here extended to categories equipped with an ideal of 'null morphisms', or equivalently a full subcategory of 'null objects'. Instances of this extension include closure operators viewed as generalised torsion theories in a 'category of pairs', and factorization systems viewed as torsion theories in a category of morphisms. The first point has essentially been treated in [15].
متن کاملAbstract of Book
Hedonism is the view that the Good Life is the pleasant life. The central aim of this book is to show that, when carefully and charitably interpreted, certain forms of hedonism yield plausible evaluations of human lives. The forms I defend understand pleasure as intrinsic attitudinal pleasure. I reject all forms of sensory hedonism. I defend my preferred forms of hedonism against a barrage of c...
متن کاملFrom Agent Theories to Multi-Agent Theories
Many research efforts in the area of autonomous and intelligent agents have focused on intra-agent aspects, such as agent languages and architectures, which focus on the agent’s internal structure. Instead, multi-agent systems should not be simply considered as a multitude of individuals. If a society of agent exists, a collective social behaviour is likely to emerge. Therefore, to fully unders...
متن کاملA case of hedonistic homeostatic dysregulation.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common condition especially amongst the elderly population, which is increasing. I present a case of an unusual but also under-recognised syndrome caused by PD therapy, which can have devastating effects on the patient and their family.
متن کاملFrom Theories to Queries
This article surveys recent work in active learning aimed at making it more practical for real-world use. In general, active learning systems aim to make machine learning more economical, since they can participate in the acquisition of their own training data. An active learner might iteratively select informative query instances to be labeled by an oracle, for example. Work over the last two ...
